In light of upcoming changes to requirements for relationships and sex education (RSE), we spent last academic year consulting with parents, pupils and staff on how we can make sure that our updated RSE curriculum meets the new requirements as well as the needs of Atwood pupils.
We’ve worked hard to make sure that our new curriculum reflects:
- Our pupils’ age and maturity levels, as well as their cultural and religious backgrounds
- The values of our school community
- Every pupil’s learning needs
- What pupils need to know to be healthy and safe in school, in their personal relationships and in the wider world
We have done this by holding a parent/stakeholder consultation last Autumn Term where parents and any interested parties were invited to attend a meeting about the curriculum and review the policy. We then held a staff consultation in which all school staff were given the opportunity to review the proposed curriculum and drafts of the policy and make recommendations. Additionally, we held a pupil consultation by investigating what exactly pupils want from their RSE curriculum at our school.
We’ve now updated our RSE policy to include our proposed new curriculum. You’ll find a copy of our new draft policy here. We’d like your feedback on the policy. This can be done by emailing any comments or suggestions you have via the school office with the subject heading “Draft RSE Policy”.
The deadline for responding to the consultation is Monday 2nd November 2020.
