PE and Sport Provision

Sport has always been an important element of the curriculum offer at Atwood. Since becoming an academy in 2014, all year groups from 1 to 6 have been taught at least one lesson per week by sports specialists. Staff have received Continued Professional Development (CPD) and support from Croydon School Sports Partnerships in order to develop various aspects of PE provision. Resources are well stocked and a number of clubs are in place for the enjoyment of Atwood children. The school has continued to enter various Croydon leagues and taken part in festivals for many different sports. Our children enjoy their PE at Atwood.

In 2018-2019, there were 60 children in the Year 6 cohort.  88% of these pupils could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.  We worked intensively on a weekly basis with the 12% of children who were not meeting this expectation.  Atwood used some of its additional Sports Premium Grant to fund such lessons.
