Our netballers travelled to Croydon High on Wednesday 12th February for our last league match as well as a friendly match.

The girls had the chance to play their matches indoors in Croydon High’s sports hall. This meant the match play went at a faster pace but this only had a positive effect on our girls as they all stepped up and played some fantastic netball! It was great to see lots of skills that have been worked on at our weekly training sessions such as successful centre passes, defence in the shooting circle and movement on court.

Lilia and Tilly W were voted Players of the match by Croydon High and Georgina and Chloe were Coach’s players of the match - well played girls!

Congratulations to all the Year 5 and Year 6 girls that played - Tiana, Ava, Hannah, Millie, Lilia, Georgina, Grace, Chloe, Mollie, Kyla, Tilly, Mia, Olivia and Emily.

Monday 3rd February and Thursday 6th February

It’s been a busy netball week! On Monday 3rd February, 17 netballers went to Gresham to play a league and a friendly match.

The league match was first and Tiana was great in centre court with Grace, Georgina and Lilia. Our defending duo of Millie and Ava were also hard at work while our shooters Mia and Hannah were waiting in the circle.

Next, our second team came on and after finding their feet, had a much stronger second half. We didn’t get the result we wanted but the whole team should be commended for listening well to coaching advice and using this on court. Netballers Emily B, Olivia L, Chloe, Mollie, Sedona, Kisha, Sophie, Poppy, Elise all deserve a mention for their fantastic positive attitudes. Well done girls! Players of the match as voted by Gresham were Tiana and Mollie and coach’s player of the match were Ava and Olivia L.

On Thursday 6th February we welcomed Courtwood to our school. Again, we had two teams of girls ready to play a league match followed by a friendly. There were a few changes for our league match as Tiana was injured so Grace stepped up to take the role of Centre. She was assisted by Hannah, Lilia and Mia in attack with Georgina, Ava and Millie in defence. The game was very fast paced and although it seemed fairly even, we lost 4-1.

It was now the turn of our second team and although there were some “first time” nerves, there were plenty of smiles to be seen. The team consisted of Maya, Tilly S, Tilly W, Kyla, Hannah, Megan, Leah, Eva and Lilly I. From the first whistle, the girls were enthusiastic and worked together well. They were fantastic hosts to our guests and represented Atwood perfectly.

Courtwood’s two players of the match were Lilia and Kyla and the coach’s players were Hannah and Maya for their excellent team spirit.

Many thanks to Mrs Hutchinson and Mrs Brown for their time and support.

Girls’ Football

Tuesday 4th February

Atwood Girls played a football match against Gresham on Tuesday 4th February, which was a fantastic battle with the visitors taking a narrow win of 2-1.

Gresham started quickly with a good early goal whilst Atwood fought back with a goal not long after, levelling the score near the end of the first half (scored by Olivia from close range).

The second half was cagey with chances for both teams; however, Gresham managed to score the winning goal with a great run and shot from outside of the box ending up in the far corner.

It was a great effort from our Atwood Girls who keep improving week by week during their first season of girls School football, well done.

Swimming Gala

Thursday 30th January

Fourteen children from Atwood took part in the Croydon Schools swimming gala semi-finals on Thursday 30th January. This was the second day of three heats, with over 20 primary schools taking part. All of the children gave it their best effort – watch this space to see in the next few weeks if any of them made it to the final!

Thursday 23rd January

On Thursday, the Atwood netballers went to Park Hill primary school to play the second league match against them.

The match started really well, with Tiana making energetic moves across the court to link up with Grace and Lilia. We welcomed back Mia from her injury to the role of GS and it wasn’t long before she was taking shots on goal. Lilia scored the first goal and Park Hill were determined to catch up. The match play was fast and end to end as our defence team battled hard, with Millie, Tilly and Georgina making some fabulous interceptions. At half time, the team had a positive talk and after a position change with Ava coming on as GD, the girls put every effort into the second half, scoring twice more. We did not come away with the win we hoped but there were some huge improvements on display and the girls should be proud of how much their confidence has grown. Congratulations to Millie who was voted Park Hill’s Player of the Match and to Tiana who is Coach’s Player of the Match for her positivity and hard work during the match.

Cross Country

Saturday 18th January

On Saturday 18th January, ten children from Years 3-6 braved the frosty conditions at Woodcote High School to take part in the annual South London Harriers primary school cross country league. There were a variety of races for each age group, with around 50 children in each race. All of the Atwood children did well, showing great enthusiasm and team spirit. Special mention goes to George in 4M who came an amazing fourth in what was his very first time taking part in the competition! Well done also to Laura, Kashvi, Sophie, Liam, Oliver B, Fred, Jack K, Harry and David.

Thursday 16th January

On Thursday 16th January, our netballers welcomed Ridgeway to Atwood for the first match of the new year. After having our fingers crossed all afternoon for good weather, the girls ventured out with a positive attitude.  The team started strong, with some lovely passing between Tiana, Grace and Lilia in the centre, while Millie and Tilly were holding strong in the oppositions circle.  Ava and Georgina linked up well in their positions to defend, making great interceptions.  Hannah and Lilia had some chances to score but luck was not on our side ... right until the last minute of the game, when Lilia held her nerve and scored the final goal!

Although we lost the match, Atwood girls were perfect hosts and our Ridgeway guests joined the team to sing Happy Birthday to Hannah.  Ridgeway voted for Lilia as player of the match - congratulations!  I would like to nominate both Ava and Georgina as Coach's player[s] of the match as they both played in a League match for the first time plus both showed excellent listening skills, determination and energy on court.  Well done girls!

Girls’ Football

Wednesday 18th December

On Wednesday 18th December, the Atwood girls’ football team played two matches against Gresham – one friendly game and one league match. Coach Ellie says:

‘This was a great game to watch; both teams played really well, holding their own. Both teams had good chances but unfortunately, the ball did not find its way to the net. I was very impressed with the Atwood girls who held and passed the ball well. It was the best game of the season so far - looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year for more matches!

A massive thank you for giving 100% girls, well done. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year from all at T10.’

Thursday 5th December

On Thursday 5th December, we travelled to Ridgeway Primary school to play our fourth league match. The team started with Millie, Tilly and Kisha in defence with Tiana as centre working with Grace to feed Lilia and Hannah in the circle. From the first centre pass, Atwood came out strong, taking the ball to our circle and the first great goal from Lilia.

After a few positional changes at half time, we set off again, making some great interceptions and scoring three more goals. Unfortunately, these were not quite enough to win the match but the girls should be very proud of their performance - in my opinion, their best game to date.

Millie was awarded player of the match by Ridgeway and my coach’s player of the match was Lilia for her amazing shooting and hard work on court. Well done girls!

Thursday 21st November

On Thursday 21st November, the Atwood netballers hosted a match against Park Hill School. The girls have been training hard at our weekly club sessions and it was fantastic to see an improvement on court - Tiana was great at switching between attack and defence, Lilia never gave up when faced with a tall defender and Hannah, Kyla and Kisha fought hard to keep possession. Our defence (Grace, Tilly and Millie) were amazing, making many interceptions - well done girls! Millie was awarded player of the match by Park Hill and Tilly and Grace were Coach’s players of the match!

Tuesday 19th of November

Atwood v St Peters (Boys' A Team)

Atwood 5 - St. Peters 1

T10 Coach Feedback: Atwood played against a very strong St. Peters side. The game started well for Atwood going 1-0 with St. Peters and equalizing just before half time. Atwood's confidence grew and the teams started to play with their style of passing/skilful football, this unlocked St.Peters defence scoring Atwood another 4 goals. The result 5-1 to Atwood was well earned, a big well done!

Monday 18th of November

Atwood v The Hayes (Girls' A Team)

Atwood 3 - The Hayes - 1

T10 Coach Feedback: Very impressed by the performance displayed by Atwood girls on Monday afternoon. The whole team had a positive mindset from start to finish winning 3-1.

A real team effort resulting in Emily scoring 2 goals and Georgina scoring 1.

Well done Team!

Saturday 16th November

The Atwood cross country team took to Woodcote for the first of the South London Harriers League cross country competitions on Saturday 16th November.

The girls did a fantastic job with Kashvi and Lily coming 27th and 28th in the Year 3 & 4 girls and Sophie placing 18th in the year 5 & 6 girls.

The Year 3 & 4 boys saw Toby L placing 9th and George in 28th - well done boys!

The year 5 & 6 boys did particularly well and are now placed 2nd overall in the league.

Thanks to Liam, Toby C-M, Jack K, Harry K, David and a particular congratulations to Oliver B in 9th and Fred in 2nd - well done!

Wednesday 6th November

Atwood vs Smitham (Girls A Team)

Result: Smitham 1 – Atwood 0

A great performance from Atwood Girls and their opposition Smitham for their first league fixture of the season. Atwood conceded a goal in the first 10 minutes but continued to pull together as a team until the end. All players performed very well but coach Ellie would like to mention some stand out players for this match as Lilia (brilliant in goal), Georgina (holding the play together) and Chloe (fantastic work rate). Well done all!

Boys' Football

Tuesday 5th November

Atwood vs Park Hill (Boys A Team)

Result : Atwood – 0  Park Hill – 1

This was a hard fought game against Park Hill in tricky conditions. The weather did not suit the Atwood playing style of passing football and Park Hill crashed the ball forward at every opportunity. Atwood passed and moved the ball very well but were caught out with a misplaced pass which Park Hill capitalised on. Atwood went into full charge mode, making 18 shots in 30 minutes but could not convert against a strong Park Hill Goal Keeper. Atwood put in an outstanding display but the result, unfortunately, did not reflect the hard effort and performance on this occasion.

BOYS ' Football

Friday 18th October

Atwood vs Whitehorse (Boys A Team)

Result: Atwood - 5 Whitehorse - 0 (Cup Game)

There was a great attacking performance from the Atwood Team. Atwood totally dominated from start to finish and could have scored many more goals. As a result, we have been drawn against Selsdon Primary for the next cup game taking place next week.

CSSP cross country competition

Tuesday 15th October

Children from Years 1 - 4 took part in the Croydon Schools Sports Partnerships Primary Cross Country Competition on Tuesday 15th October at Lloyd Park. All of the children did extremely well in very wet and muddy conditions with some great placings.

Years 1 and 2 children faced competition from a huge number of other runners, but there was a fantastic turnout from Atwood, and all of the children completed their race, coming in the top 100. Eloise in Orange Class did incredibly well, coming in second place in the Year 2 girls’ race, winning herself a silver medal.

Over 170 children competed in the Year 3 girls’ race, with Laura in 3W bravely entering the category all on her own. All of the other children cheered her on loudly!

In the Year 3 boys’ race, 173 children ran, and Atwood had 6 boys braving the mud, hills and the tricky course. Big congratulations to them all for finishing, but especially to Toby in 3W for coming over the line in 13th place!  Well done too to Jacob in 3W, who ran really well as part of our team - he has only been at Atwood for 7 weeks!

Out of 166 Year 4 girls, all of the Atwood girls finished the race, despite two of them falling over due to the crowded start line and some wet, slippery grass. Eden in 4M finished in 41st place, a great achievement considering the number of entrants.

Three Atwood boys ran in the Year 4 boys’ race out of a total of 173 and all finished in the top 100... we had two fantastic results, James in 4M in 28th place and an amazing 3rd place for Emilio in 4M who was given a bronze medal!

Big thanks to all the amazing parents, grandparents and  carers who came to support, but a special thanks goes to Mark (Toby's dad) for making sure that all our children were at the start line for their races! Huge thanks also to Mrs Krekis who acted as a marshal and cheered the children on all day!

Cross Country

Wednesday 9th October

On Wednesday 9th October, sixteen children across years 5 and 6 took part in a Croydon Schools Sports Partnership Primary Cross Country Event at Lloyd Park, and, as is always the way when Atwood children attend sporting events, they made us all very proud. There were well over 20 schools taking part and in each race over 200 runners. There were 4 races in total: Year 5 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 6 girls and Year 6 boys.

After a bit of a delay, and a lot of jumping around to keep warm, Maddison, Kyla and Sophie started their race. The uphill climb at the beginning certainly tested the runners. All three girls did brilliantly, all finishing within the top 50, and Sophie and Maddison finishing in the top 20. The Year 5 boys, Oliver B, Wray-J, Kyri, David and Harry took off like rockets when their race began. Every single one of them kept running right to the end. Oliver B ran a very quick race coming in the top 20.

Just two girls took part from Year 6, Nyla and Georgina. They had a long wait and they were up against some very tall girls. Both were really pleased with their runs and, despite being exhausted, had big smiles when they finished.

Samuel, Fred, Leo, Douglas, Elijah and James represented Atwood’s Year 6 boys. This was a packed race and again a fast start. Each boy ran their own race and finished with sprints. Fred did particularly well, finishing in the top 20.

Well done to all those who took part. You were amazing and a privilege to take.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who took the children and helped out with supervision, especially as it was a cold afternoon. A special thank you to Mrs Krekis who acted as a marshal for the race and helped the children push on to the end.

Tuesday 8th October

On Tuesday 8th October ten Atwood pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 visited Lloyd Park for the Croydon Schools Sports Partnership annual Orienteering Festival.  As a warm up, the children completed 3 map-based challenges in order to hone their skills in preparation for the main orienteering activity.  This saw the children being split into 2 teams of 5.  Both teams were given a map of Lloyd Park and had a course of 8 control points to find.  To add challenge to the event, the children had to return to Mr Veale after each control point and answer a tricky question.  This in turn awarded them a special letter.  All 8 letters were collected by the 2 teams and the final brain-teaser was to unscramble them to make the word OLYMPICS.

Our thanks go to Pearl from the CSSP and Mr O’Connor for driving the minibus to and from the event.

Thursday 14th March

On Thursday, year 5 netballers took part in the first round of CSSP’s High 5 netball competition. They travelled to Riddlesdown Collegiate to play against 5 other schools - Gresham, Christchurch, Kenley, Courtwood and the Hayes. The team were so excited to play - this would be the first netball match for some girls!

The matches were fast paced and the girls stepped up, improving after each match. The progress the girls have made at Netball club was clear to see on court as excellent passing and brave interceptions were on display. The girls cheered each other on and were first to shake the opponents’ hands. I was very proud of the team work and sportsmanship that they all showed. The opposing teams voted for their player of the match - well done to Hannah (twice!), Lilia (twice!) and Tiana. Congratulations to Olivia, Millie, Grace, Tiana, Gaby, Lilia and Hannah - you were all amazing!

In other news, huge congratulations to our Year 6 netball team who have qualified for the Croydon Primary schools league finals that will be taking place on Friday 29th March. You’ve got this girls! Go Team Atwood!

Mrs Burr

 Friday 8th March

On Friday 8th March the Atwood boys’ football team played a double header at home against Gresham. The first match was a 1 -1 draw, with the goal scored by Jayden in 6B. The second match was a 3 – 0 win to Atwood, with two more goals from Jayden and another from Theo in 6HB. Man of both matches was Cleagle in 6HB. Well done to all the boys who took part!

Tuesday 5th March

On Tuesday afternoon, the Year 6 netballers took part in the Croydon Primary Schools tournament at Croydon High. The girls played 6 matches against Croydon High A & B teams, Cumnor House, Woodcote, Kenley and Coulsdon. We won one, drew one and missed out on 4 - though the scores certainly didn’t reflect how hard the girls worked! It was plain to see how the team was improving as the tournament progressed and more importantly, how the girls continued to support each other on court. Chloe and Olivia should have a special mention for their defence work in the circle, with Chloe amazing us with her many interceptions. The whole team should be commended for their positive attitude and how they continued to fight right to the end. Thank you to Mrs Standing and the parents that came to support us.

Cross Country

Saturday 19th January

Well done to our wonder Atwood team from years 3-6 who took part in the SLH cross country race series at Woodcote. They all did marvellously well in the freezing conditions with particular note to Fred (5I) who won the year 5 & 6 boys race by a considerable margin.

Thank you again to those children and parents who sacrifice their Saturday morning to run for the school; each and everyone one of you make such a valuable contribution to the team.

Thursday 17th January

On Thursday 17th January, the Atwood netball team braved the cold weather to play their first match of 2019.
We welcomed three new players to the team - Giya, Ruby C and Chloe - and after a great practise session on Tuesday, the girls were ready to face Ridgeway.

The match started well but Ridgeway slipped past us and scored the first goal. Our girls stepped up the pace and soon the ball was in the shooting circle and in the capable hands of Lucy who scored the first goal. This was quickly followed up by another two and also a goal from Charlotte, meaning we finished half time ahead 4-2. A few positional changes were made and the girls were off again. Ridgeway were determined and scored again, leaving Atwood to work hard in defence. The whistle blew, with the score at 4-3 to Atwood. Well done girls! Ridgeway’s player of the match was Abbie. I would like to say well done to Giya, Chloe and Ruby who did so well in their first league match. Our defence team, “the two Olivia’s” worked well together and there was also huge improvement on court from Ruby L and Lucy. Well done all!

Mrs Burr

Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th January

Atwood played a League game against St Peters at home on Wednesday 16th January. Unfortunately we lost by 4 goals to 1, but the team did their best, with a great goal scored by Adrian. Man of the Match was Jayden in 6B.

On Thursday 17th January, Atwood boys were in action again in a Cup Game against Margaret Roper. Margaret Roper were a strong team and won the match with 4 goals to 0. Man of the Match was Theo in 6HB.

Monday 3rd December

Whoever made netball a winter sport? Last week, we had to postpone our game against Courtwood due to rain - it was rescheduled for Monday this week so the girls were determined to play, even though more rain clouds were looming! After sweeping the leaves and puddles off the court (thank you Mr B!), the team were raring to go. The team consisted of Abbie as C, Evie as WA, Olivia F as WD, Olivia B as GD, Charlotte as GA, Lucy as GS and Ruby L as GK. We were missing Rosa who unfortunately had an injury.

The girls set a fast pace to the game and were soon up by one goal.  Courtwood came back quickly, scoring at their end. Abbie and Evie worked hard to get the ball to Charlotte and Lucy meaning that Atwood finished the first half ahead 2-1. The second half was just as exciting with both teams making interceptions and having chances to score goals. Charlotte scored in the last few minutes, meaning Atwood edged ahead, winning the game 3-1.

Courtwood voted Charlotte their player of the match - well done! A great finish to this half of the season. Netball Club has its last session next Tuesday and we’re already looking forward to our next match in January.

Mrs Burr

Tuesday 4th December

A group of Year 3 and 4 children have been taking part in Squash sessions run by Pete Smith at David Lloyd. These sessions culminated in a mini-tournament on Tuesday 4th December where Atwood came in second place! Well done to Rachel, Kyri, Olivia M, Freddie, Jacob, Esme, Lewis, and Olivia C for all your efforts.

Girls’ Football

Friday 30th November

On Friday 30th November our girls put up a strong game against The Hayes but they presented an extremely strong team and we lost the game. Playing strong teams will only improve our game and the girls continue to move forward and improve with a really positive mindset - well done girls!

The Atwood girls’ football team played their first set of league games as a team in a double header against Kenley Primary. The girls finished up the first game 0 - 0, with some fantastic defending and some brilliant saves from Lilia. The second game unfortunately finished 3 - 0 to Kenley but the girls kept going right to the end and showed great spirit.

The team is looking forward to their next league game away at The Hayes Primary on the 30th November.

Our boys’ B Team also played their first match together in a very tough friendly against a very strong Woodside Academy 'A' Team. Atwood started off the game fantastically and surprised Woodside by taking the lead through Austin. Atwood could have taken the lead further but unfortunately didn't take their chances and Woodside scored 4 goals in quick succession. With only the bare 7 players and no subs, tiredness played a massive part and the boys conceded a few more goals in the second half. However, on the whole, it was a good experience for mainly boys in year 5 playing against an opposition full of year 6 boys.

Coach Gill

Thursday 22nd November

On Thursday, the Atwood netball team went along to Ridgeway for their second match of the season. The girls have been working hard in training to improve their defending skills and I’m proud to say that every single girl showed improvement on court. The team made many interceptions and the defence team of Rosa, Olivia B and Ruby L were very strong and not many passes got past them! The girls started strong, scoring 3 goals in the first 5 minutes. Abbie in centre linked well with Olivia F to feed our shooters, Lucy and Charlotte, who worked together to make an efficient team in the circle.
The final score was 9-2 to Atwood. Charlotte was captain this week and was also awarded Player of the Match by the Ridgeway team. It would be hard to pick a coach’s player as each girl rose to the challenge but Olivia B had a fantastic game and Ruby deserves a mention too as it was her first full competitive  game. Well done girls, you are superstars!!

Autumn has arrived and with it, the start of the netball season. However, in true Autumn style, the weather meant our first match against Margaret Roper last week had to be postponed. So, this week, our Year 6 netball team faced another new opponent, Cumnor House girls’ school. Again, the rain decided to make an appearance but luckily this time, we had the option to travel to Cumnor House to use their indoor sports Hall. The conditions were different as the court was slightly smaller and the pace of the game much quicker but our team stepped up to the challenge with smiles on their faces.

Charlotte and Lucy worked hard to put goals in, supported well by Evie and Abbie in the centre court but Cumnor’s defence were strong (and tall!) leaving our defence team of Rosa, Olivia B and Olivia F battling at every turn. By the end of the match, the win went to Cumnor but our girls still had smiles on their faces and lots of ideas how to do even better at the next match. With this fantastic attitude, the season looks very bright! Well done girls!

Monday 12th November

On Monday, six children from year 4 took part in a Panathlon competition at Riddlesdown School. There were 11 other schools taking part and Atwood joined forces with our neighbours, Gresham, to form ATgresham!
There were lots of different activities such as boccia, football, table cricket, curling, sitting volleyball and even fun games with a parachute!

Our team came 4th which was an amazing achievement and each child was very pleased to receive a medal for their efforts. Well done to Dillon, Aimee, Megan, Mia, Lexie-May and Luke. We are very proud of you!

Sports Festival

Thursday 8th November

A group of excited Atwood children took part in a sports festival with Gresham children on Thursday 8th November. They enjoyed bowling, ball races, and skipping and jumping games, having a wonderful time in the process. Thank you to all the children and staff who helped to make the event a success!

Thursday 18th October

On Thursday 18th October, 19 children took part in the Croydon Schools swimming trials at Trinity School. We have been very lucky to acquire the use of Trinity Pool for our trials and 6 training sessions, which will run on a Wednesday morning from 8:15am-9:00am.  All the children did fantastically well- watch this space for our final team!

Friday 12th October

Atwood’s footballers were in action on Friday 12th October in an away match against Ridgeway. The Atwood team won 1 - 0 after an incredible goal from Jay (5R) from 25 yards out. Man of the match was Harry in 6HB. Well done, boys!

Cross Country

Thursday 10th October

Well done to all the Atwood children from years 1, 2, 3 & 4 who took part in the Croydon School Partnership’s Primary Cross Country competition on Thursday 10th October.

Everyone ran with a great attitude and smiling faces! We had 2 particularly impressive results; Eloise in Violet Class beat over 100 girls to win her 1km race by quite a margin - excellent running Eloise!

Emilio in Ruby Class ran a brilliantly paced race to finish in 3rd place. We have since learnt that the 2 boys in front of him were disqualified for poor sportsmanship and therefore Emilio has shot up to 1st place - well done Emilio!

Letters will be coming home today about the SLH cross country series being held at Woodcote school for children in Years 3-6. It would be fantastic to have as many Team Atwood participants as possible, so please do sign up if you can!

Friday 5th December

Our netball team, coached by Mrs Burr, competed in a friendly match against Gresham on Friday 5th October. For some girls this was their first netball match and they all worked really well as a team. There was plenty of feedback to take on board and they are all looking forward to their first league match next half term.

Saturday 29th September

The boys were out in force again on Saturday 29th September at the Croydon Boys U-11 5-a-side. We played strongly to get to the semi-final, and although we lost our semi match, it was to the winning team so the boys did fantastically well!

Tag Rugby

Friday 21st September

On Friday 21st September, a group of year 5s took part in a tag rugby festival. The children received fantastic coaching from Whitgift and Trinity staff followed by a number of matches. Well done to the whole team!

Friday 21st September

Our boys’ football team played a Cup Match against Norbury Manor at home, winning 1-0 and going through to the next round.

Coach Gill commented, “Jamie (6HB) came on as a sub and scored the winning goal. All the boys put in a fantastic display. Man of the match goes to Jay (5R).

Well done Jayden (6B), Jay (5R), Cleagle (6HB), Fred (5I), Adrian (6HB), James (6HB), Eythan (6HB), Zabdiel (5R) and Jamie (6HB).

Thursday 24th May

Atwood’s B Team footballers took part in a friendly football tournament on Thursday 24th May at Heavers Farm Primary. The boys played 4 matches without conceding a single goal: against Selsdon Primary (Atwood won 1-0), Heavers Farm (Atwood won 2-0), St James the Great (Atwood won 1-0) and St Joseph’s (0-0). Atwood won the whole tournament, and Mr Gill was thrilled with the boys’ performance. Well done, boys!

Tuesday 22nd May

On Tuesday 22nd May, Atwood’s footballers played a friendly away match against Woodside. Although the team lost the match, it was a very close 6-5, and lots of fantastic goals were scored. Well done to all the boys who took part!

South London Harriers Cross Country Event

Saturday 17th March

Some very brave and hardy Atwood children decided to test their resilience and attended the SLH Cross Country at Woodcote on Saturday 17th March. The weather was typical cross country conditions; cold, windy and snowy (ok, it was actually a blizzard!).

We were so very proud of all of the children who attended, particularly our lovely year 3 girls (all from Ruby class) who managed to place Atwood 5th in the team standings for this meet - well done girls!

Well done to Maddison (Ruby), Lily (Ruby), Kyla (Ruby), Sophie (Ruby), Tillie (Ruby), Amelia (Ruby), and Oliver (Ruby) who placed in the top 10, and Charlotte (5I) and Edward (6B) who placed in the top 20 – we were very very impressed with you all!

Netball League Finals

Friday 16th March

There were great celebrations last Friday evening when the Year 6 netballers took part in the Croydon Primary Schools’ Netball League Final.  The team knew there would be a high standard of netball but were looking forward to playing teams from different schools.  The girls started off brilliantly, winning their first game against Orchard Way with a score of 5-2.  Next they went onto play Croydon High but unfortunately they lost.  However, the girls had a great team building chat between matches and went off to face their next match against Woodcote with a positive attitude.  This served them well as they won, 4-1.  The win meant they progressed to the semi-finals which pitched us against ... Gresham!  The girls played under the biggest pressure to date, and truly showed their passion, fighting hard to the end.  Unfortunately, we lost this match and Gresham went on to play Croydon High in the final, with Croydon High eventually winning.  Many thanks to the parents and Atwood staff that came along to support, it was greatly appreciated.

32 Croydon Primary schools entered the League this year and Atwood finished the season in joint third position.  This is an amazing achievement and shows how far the girls have come in 6 months.  Their dedication to the club and learning new skills has brought them together as a team and most importantly, they have represented Atwood in the best possible way.   Congratulations to Alyze, Charlie, Eloise, Sophia, Lucy, Maisie, Keira and Kaya.

swimming gala finals

Wednesday 14th March

Atwood children took part in the Croydon Schools Primary Swimming Gala Finals at Trinity School on Wednesday 14th March.

Abbie in 5I swam into 3rd place in the 25m Breaststroke in a time of 23.97. Alyzé in 6B did the double gold and won both the 25m Backstroke (16.86) and the 25m Butterfly (15.41).

We are fantastically proud of both girls - a huge Atwood round of applause!

Tuesday 13th March

On Tuesday, our Year 5 team went to Croydon High School to participate in the second High 5 Netball tournament.  The rain held off and the girls were raring to go from the moment they stepped off the minibus!  We played matches against Beaumont, Christchurch, Gresham, Courtwood and St Peters and won 3 out of those 5 matches.  By the end of the tournament, Atwood were in second place overall so there is all to play for at the third and final tournament in a few weeks’ time.  The opposing teams voted for their player of the match each time - well done to Abbie (3 times!) and Olivia (2 times!).  Interestingly, we have some new shooters and natural defenders appearing in the team and it was a pleasure to watch the girls play with such great sportsmanship.  Atwood girls were first to offer to shake hands at the end of a match and always left the court with smiles on their faces.  Congratulations to Charlotte HG, Charlotte M, Abbie, Evie, Olivia, Lucy and Rosa - keep it up!

Wednesday 21st February

Atwood’s A Team footballers played two matches on Wednesday against Park Hill Juniors, winning both games – the first 2 - 0 (goals scored by Kyron and Dino) and the second 2 – 1 (both goals scored by Naquarm). Well done to all the boys on two fantastic results!

Thursday 8th February

Atwood’s A Team played Ridgeway at home on Thursday, winning by a very respectable 4 -1. Well done to all the players who took part!

Tuesday 6th February & Thursday 8th February

The Atwood Netballers were out braving the weather again this week.  The Year 6 teams visited Gresham on Tuesday for their final matches of the season.  The first match started well but Gresham were leading by half time.  Atwood fought back in the second half, scoring well, but it wasn't quite enough as the final score was Atwood 6 - Gresham 9.  The second match was also a close call, with another great team performance, particularly from Jessica and Ellen, who made some fantastic interceptions on court.  Well done girls!

Yesterday, our Year 5 team went to Croydon High School to participate in the first of three High 5 Netball tournaments with five other local schools.  The weather was cold but the girls did not stop smiling for the entire two hours - the smiles were there on court too, as the team won 4 out of 5 matches!    The opposing teams voted for their player of the match each time - well done to Charlotte HG (3 times!), Abbie and Evie.  It was clear to everyone how hard these girls have worked on their netball skills and the future looks very promising!  Mrs Hutchinson and I were so proud of the whole team for the sportsmanship and team spirit that they all showed.  We found it hard to pick one single player so congratulations to Charlotte HG, Charlotte M, Abbie, Evie, Olivia, Lucy and Rosa - you were amazing!

Wednesday 7th February

Atwood girls’ football team were in action in the School Games Final at Lanfranc on Wednesday. Following a series of matches played at Selsdon Primary last term, the team were invited to play in the final. This consisted of a series of qualifying rounds and a final.

Atwood had a tough draw but won 2 and lost 3 matches. The team finished 12th out of 14 in the league and fought the whole way.

Well done to Sanah, Kaya, Alyzé, Katherine, Alice, Rehana, Inessa-Renee and Charlie.

Our top goals scorers were Rehana and Inessa-Renee.

Thursday 1st February

The Year 6 Netballers continued their successful run by winning 10-2 against Fairchildes Primary school on Thursday.
The girls are working so well together on court and particular mention goes to Charlie and Sophia as shooters and Eloise and Alyzé as central attackers. The girls came together to show accurate passing and great work in the circle. Alyzé was voted Player of the Match by Fairchildes - congratulations! Next week, we will be taking two teams to Gresham to play our last league match of the season. Good luck girls!

 Thursday 1st February

On Thursday 1st February, Atwood’s footballers were in action away against Trinity. The match was a challenging one, with Trinity 4-0 up within the first 10 minutes. However, Atwood fought back hard, and ended up only losing by one goal (4-3). This was a fantastic effort by the boys against a very good team, and the sports coaches were very proud of the whole team for their effort and commitment.

Thursday 25th January

On Thursday, Atwood swimming team took part in the qualifying heats of the Croydon Primary  Schools’ Swimming Competition which took place in Purley pool.

The team consisted of 25 children, with participants from Year 3 to Year 6.  The Girls' medley team started off with an amazing first place, closely followed by the boys who came second in their race.  From then, the whole team continued to make us very proud with their huge efforts.  Over half of our children reached first, second or third position which was fantastic.  A special mention should go to the children for whom this was their first gala experience.  Well done to you and congratulations to the whole team for their "Team Atwood" attitude.  Thank you to all the parents and carers that came along to support.  We expect to receive the results in a few weeks when we will find out whether we have qualified for the finals.

Saturday 20th January

On Saturday 20th January, a group of Atwood children took part in a Cross Country Race which is part of the annual primary school cross country league that is being hosted by South London Harriers. There were approximately 100 children involved overall, and our children did extremely well, showing great commitment and team spirit. Madison in Ruby Class finished in the top 20, and Fred in 4S came third in his race.

Well done to all the children involved!

Atwood netballers have had a very positive start to 2018 by winning their first 4 matches!

Last Tuesday, we played Forestdale at home and the team proved that they had not forgotten any of their skills over the Christmas break by winning 7-2.  Forestdale's player of the match was Lucy A which was well deserved.

Then, on Friday, we travelled to Greenvale Primary school.  The girls were ready and there was plenty of excited team talk in the minibus.  The team played some of their best netball to date - creating space, accurate passing, strong defence and excellent shooting.  We won 11-3 and Greenvale voted Alyzé as their player of the match.

Finally, this week, we took two teams to Courtwood Primary.  The first match started well and continued to stay strong to win 4-2.  Next, our second team came on and played more great netball, working together to achieve a 3-0 win!  Most importantly, all the girls showed great sportsmanship and were a credit to our school.  Players of the match were Alyzé and Kaya - well done girls!

Tuesday 28th November

Atwood’s B team footballers played a match away against Kenley this week, drawing 1 -1. Special mention goes to James in 5I and also Taefion in 5R, who has scored 4 goals in 4 games. Very well done to all the children who took part!

Tuesday 28th November

The Year 5 and 6 netballers were back in action this week, playing against Courtwood at home.  The Year 6 match started well, with Atwood leading by half time.  Courtwood came back fighting and by the last minute of the second half, the score was level at 3-3.  Then Courtwood managed to score, just 10 seconds before the whistle blew!  The girls were disappointed but showed great sportsmanship.  Then a mixed team of Year 5 & 6 played a friendly match, where they finished with a 3-0 win!  This was the first school match for most of the girls and their performance was outstanding.  The smiles on their faces showed how much they enjoyed it!  This week's special mention goes to Olivia B and Lucy B in Year 5 for their great interceptions and passing of the ball and also to Alice in Year 6 who was so positive throughout, fully deserving the role of Captain for the match.  Courtwood voted their Players of the Match as Sophia (2 weeks running - well done!) and Evie (first netball match ever - amazing!).

Thank you also to all the parents and carers who have been coming along to the home matches – your support is really appreciated!

Wednesday 15th November

On Wednesday 15th November, Atwood’s footballers played Elmhurst away, achieving a 3-all draw. Special mention goes to Luke and Rehana for their efforts during the match. Well done to everyone who took part!

Wednesday 8th November

On Wednesday 8th November, Atwood’s A Team footballers played Elmhurst at home, winning 4 -1. Adrian in 5I scored his first goal for the team, and Dino and Roshan (both 6B) also played especially well. Well done to all of the children that took part!

Tag Rugby

Monday 6th November

Year 5 and 6 children took part in CSSP’s Tag Rugby on Monday 6th November.  After playing 6 games, we won 2, drew 2 and lost 2, finishing up 5th out of 7 schools.  We played some really good teams but after the first two games we looked a totally different team. The attitude and behaviour of the team was exemplary and we are very proud of their effort.

Cross Country

Saturday 4th November

A number of children from KS2 took part in a cold and wet cross country race at Woodcote school on Saturday 4th November. Everyone had a great attitude and ran their best and we had some fantastic placings. Fred in 4S was our best scorer, coming in 3rd place in year 3 and 4. Well done, everyone!

Tuesday 10th October

The Year 6 netballers started the season off with two excellent matches against Gresham on Tuesday afternoon. We won one and lost one but the whole team's attitude was amazing and both games were great to watch.  Players of the match, voted by Gresham, were Charlie and Freya in 6B - very well played, girls!

Tuesday 3rd October

Atwood’s A-Team footballers played Gresham away on Tuesday 3rd October, winning 2 -1. Well done to all the players who took part!
